Pre-OSSD vs. starting directly – what's the real difference in time and results?
For someone with decent but not perfect English and some gaps in high school subjects, is doing a Pre-OSSD program first actually faster/better than trying regular OSSD courses immediately and retaking if needed? Looking for honest opinions.

It usually ends up being faster and cheaper in the long run to do Pre-OSSD first if you have noticeable gaps. Without it, many students underestimate how different the Ontario style is – more emphasis on critical thinking, written analysis, independent projects – and end up repeating courses or dropping out temporarily. The prep program builds exactly those skills plus refreshes key concepts, so when you start Grade 11/12 credits, you're hitting the ground running instead of playing catch-up. Toronto Imperial School's version is about 4–6 months depending on your pace, after which you transition directly into the diploma requirements with better confidence and grades. You can check the curriculum breakdown and student outcomes here: https://torontoimperial.com/pre-ossd-program/ I've talked to a few who tried the direct route, failed 1–2 courses early, then did prep anyway and wished they'd started with it. If your placement test shows you're close to ready, maybe skip – but if borderline, prep saves headaches. Solid middle-ground choice for most international students.
